Mistrust vs. Distrust Mistrust vs. Distrust Mistrust vs. Distrust By Maeve Maddox A reader wants to know if there is a difference between the words mistrust and distrust. The short answer is, â€Å"No.† As verbs, both distrust and mistrust mean, â€Å"to be without confidence.† As nouns, both distrust and mistrust mean, â€Å"lack of trust or confidence.† The Google Ngram Viewer graph shows distrust as the more common of the two words since 1800. When I entered various phrases, the ones that began with distrust were more common than the ones with mistrust–with one curious exception: â€Å"mistrust my wife† was more common than â€Å"distrust my wife.† And neither â€Å"mistrust my husband† nor â€Å"distrust my husband† brought up any results at all. I predict that mistrust will eventually drop out of general use. I base my prediction on the fact that a red squiggly line appears under mistrust when I type a phrase with it into the Google search box. Another clue is that the search results come up prefaced with the question, â€Å"Do you mean distrust?† The only possible distinction I can discern between mistrust and distrust is that mistrust is a slightly â€Å"softer† word that may imply some doubt that the lack of trust is justified. Here are some examples of current usage of these synonyms: Marilyns insecurity made  her mistrust  everyone. Gen Halvorson cant resist reaching out to the little boy, despite his fathers obvious mistrust of her talents and her motives.   Politics has become static in America, and Americans  have always distrusted politicians.      I  distrust those  people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires. –Susan B. The History of Gillette and Schick Razors

The History of Gillette and Schick Razors Men have been slaves to their facial hair  pretty much since they first walked upright. A couple of inventors have made the process of trimming it or getting rid of it entirely  easier over the years and their razors and shavers are still widely used today. Gillette  Razors Enter the Market Patent No. 775,134 was granted to King C. Gillette for a â€Å"safety razor† on November 15, 1904. Gillette was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1855 and became a traveling salesman to support himself after his family’s home was destroyed in the Chicago Fire of 1871. His work led him to William Painter, the inventor of the disposable Crown Cork bottle cap. Painter told Gillette that a successful invention was one that was purchased over and over again by satisfied customers. Gillette took this advice to heart. After several years of considering and rejecting a number of possible inventions, Gillette suddenly had a brilliant idea while shaving one morning. An entirely new razor flashed in his mind- one with a safe, inexpensive and disposable blade. American men would no longer have to regularly send their razors out for sharpening. They could toss out their old blades and reapply new ones. Gillette’s invention would also fit neatly in the hand, minimizing cuts and nicks. It was a stroke of genius, but it took another six years for Gillette’s idea to come to  fruition. Technical experts told Gillette that it was impossible to produce steel that was hard enough, thin enough and inexpensive enough for the commercial development of a disposable razor blade. That was until MIT graduate William Nickerson agreed to try his hand at it in 1901, and two years later, he had succeeded. Production of the Gillette safety razor and blade began when the Gillette Safety Razor Company started their operations in South Boston. Over time, sales grew steadily. The U.S. government issued Gillette safety razors to the entire armed forces during World War I and over three million razors and 32 million blades were put into military hands. By the end of the war, an entire nation was converted to the Gillette  safety razor. In the 1970s, Gillette began sponsoring international sporting events  such as the Gillette Cricket Cup, the FIFA World Cup, and Formula One racing. Schick  Razors   It was an inventive U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel named Jacob Schick who first conceived of the electric razor that initially bore his name. Colonel Schick patented the first such razor on November 1928 after deciding that a dry shave was the way to go. So the Magazine Repeating Razor Company was born. Schick subsequently sold his interest in the company to American Chain and Cable, which continued to sell the razor until 1945. In 1935, ACC introduced the Schick Injector Razor, an idea in which Schick held the patent.  The Eversharp Company ultimately bought the rights to the razor in 1946. The Magazine Repeating Razor Company would become the Schick Safety Razor Company and use the same razor concept to launch a similar product for women in 1947. Teflon-coated stainless steel blades were later introduced in 1963 for a smoother shave. As part of the arrangement, Eversharp slid its own name onto the product, sometimes in conjunction with the Schick logo.

The roles of a father during and after pregnancy are ever changing with fathers becoming more engaged in the affairs of the expectant mother and the child (Koutoukidis, Stainton, and Hughson, 2013). This is unlike in the past when fathers would take a back seat or revel in the presence of a house help. Research indicates that the active involvement of fathers during and after pregnancy aids in the healthy all-round development of the child, increases bond and aids in the recovery of the mother, with activities such as changing nappies, bathing babies, organizing baby car seats, having contacts of who to call when necessary, preparing a baby area at home, ensuring healthy feeding of (expectant) mother, doing laundry, ensuring home safety, accompanying mother to clinical checkups before and after delivery (Koutoukidis, Stainton, and Hughson, 2013, 66), and so on, vital

Abortion: I Am Pro-Choice Essay -- Freedom of Choice, Pro-Choice Essays

The foundation of the American Government is built on two ideologies; first, that the majority of the people govern through democratic election and second, that the power of the majority is limited to ensure individual rights. As defined by the American Heritage Online Dictionary a mother is a woman who conceives, gives birth to, or raises and nurtures a child. This paper will discuss the right of privacy of the mother versus the governments’ right to protect the unborn fetus in regard to Abortion. Every woman has the right to make any decision that involves her body. Our government has always respected the individual’s right to privacy. A woman’s reproductive system should not be regulated by the government. In the Supreme Court case, Roe v. Wade in 1973, the decision to make abortion legal came in effect (Frohock 1983). Before Roe, many women were pregnant were forced to weigh their respect for the law against their positivism that they were not ready to be mothers. Many women chose to break the law, putting their lives and futures at risk, and decided to get unsafe and expensive procedures. Many people who choose to get an abortion for several reasons. Some of these reasons are because they want to postpone childbearing, cannot afford a baby, had relationship problems, their partner does not want pregnancy, too young, risk to fetal health, risk to maternal health, incest, and or the person was raped. In a research done, the percentage of these reasons why people seek to get an abortion ranges from 2.1% because of rape and incest to 25.5% because these people want to postpone childbearing. Laws against abortion kill woman. Even though abortion may be illegal, that does not mean woman will not go thr... ...liberty, or property without due process of the law. The law already provides the right to privacy, liberties, and the freedom to choose unfortunately, the definition of privacy, and individual rights in this county are still in question. In conclusion having the right to choose to me is the best way to go. No one should have the right to tell another person what she should do with her own body. I am pro-choice. A Critical Response Essay on Walt Whitman’s A Noiseless Patient Spider

Walt Whitman’s poem is obviously comparing the web spun by the spider and the soul of one’s self. The use of words pertaining to space is in abundance in the whole poem and this is both the case when the persona was describing the noiseless and patient spider (â€Å"explore the vacant, vast surrounding†, line 3) and when describing his own soul (â€Å"Surrounded, surrounded, in measureless oceans of space†, line 7).The most fascinating aspect of the poem is that Whitman uses a free-verse style and yet a rhythm is formed with the tempo and a beat of how a spider would have been doing and feeling while spinning the silver web and trying to latch it to open spaces around it or how the soul of the persona itself is trying to seek â€Å"spheres† and â€Å"to connect them† (line 8) to the open space present around the soul.When a reader imagines the imagery presented in the poem, it is not the spider or the soul which is visualized. Instead, the re ader sees the imagery of a spider being noiseless and patient with spaces around it and the soul being noiseless and patient as well. Thus, the spider and the soul are both the same with their need to cling to something outside the space and to venture forth outside that space.Moreover, there is a sense of purpose and existence of both the soul and the spider since they both have to latch on to something. The spider has to in fact, launch â€Å"filament, filament, filament, out of itself† (line 4) and the soul has to fling its â€Å"gossamer thread† (line 10) until it â€Å"catch somewhere† (line 10).Therefore, the spider and the soul is one and the same. The link or the parallelism of both the spider and the soul is their place in space. Other than that, the spider and the soul would be enormously different from each other.

Oedipus and Othello

Both Oedipus and Othello were virtuous and brave men that became the victims of two tragic downfalls. Oedipus and Othello are both tragic character. In the play Oedipus the king, Oedipus killed his father and married his mother and have children. However Othello ends up distrusting his wife, so he killed his wife. These two persons have similarities and differences in several characteristics that they are round characters, the vengeance that they experience upon themselves and upon their individual wives whether straight or circuitously, and their tragic. Both Oedipus and Othello are round characters. A round character is completely developed so that the person who read will have a good picture of their appearances and behavior. Oedipus is a character whose fortune cannot be escaped because whatever path he took, seems to take him to get more trouble than what he can deal with anyone before. Therefore, even if his character is well-rounded, he is not realistic. Unlike Oedipus, he would marry a woman who is his mother so he does not need to ask some question about her past marriages or her children. However, there could be some kind of conflict vision in their characters, and there may be question could have risen about the first child that was executed. On the other hand, Othello is a well-rounded character and is a realistic. Othello is a person who is jealous and mistrust that he thinks his wife is cheating on him and sleeping with another man. Othello was in love and he had this feeling that once in a while he thinks that his feeling is fed by the person whom that most trust can lied to them. Until Othello finally kills his wife, Iago constantly know about Othello’s thought that is wounded and distrust grows for his wife. Oedipus is a round character, but cannot be understood due to the ridiculous conditions of his marriage. Othello’s round character can be more understandable, because jealousy occupies all of us at one time. Othello chose to act upon it abundant like those who act in our community today. So far, both Oedipus and Othello worry themselves and their wives. When Oedipus knows the truth about himself that he married his mother and also killing his father. Oedipus’s wife Jocasta kills herself because of embarrassment that she married her son. Oedipus blinds himself in order to impose punishment for him. On the other hand, Othello wrongly blames his wife Desdemona of disloyalty with Cassio and henceforth throttles her to death. Later, Othello realizes that his allegation was wrongly founded; he is overwhelmed with guilt, and stabs himself to death. Therefore, Oedipus does moral obliteration of himself while Othello abolishes himself by death. Lastly, Othello and Oedipus are both tragic hero and their disaster comes from their marriages. Othello is a slave who achieved many goods through the military. Oedipus was born into the upper class and is also a prince and a king. Othello and Oedipus both suffered great loss and shame because of pride. Oedipus’s pride is gone after he killed his father and married his mother. After doing such bad things, Oedipus began to lose all his pride and dignity, such as losing his wife and his kingdom. For Othello, his pride’s also turned to shame because he listens to others more than his wife. So Othello killed his innocent wife and loosed his pride and precious things that belong to him. Othello also loosed his life and he stabs himself to death and said, â€Å"I took by the throat the circumcised dog. And smote him thus. † (V ii 351-352. ) In conclusion, Oedipus and Othello are the two tragic downfalls that can be compared and contrasted. Othello and Oedipus are both a heroic characters in the plays and went through a lot of suffering in their life. Both of them are round characters, the vengeance that they experience upon themselves and upon their individual wives whether straight or circuitously, and their tragic. It was too late for them to turn back n have their pride back because they had lost everything what they got. They deserved to lose everything because of what they did. Othello shouldn’t listen to others and should of listen to his lovely life more, but he decided to listen to others and killed his innocent wife. For Oedipus, killing his father just to married his mother is a very disgusting and disgraceful things that can ever happened. These two characters learned their lesson that pride is something that can destroy their life.

To achieve this objective, Mobilink offers both postpaid (Indigo) and the prepaid (JAZZ) solutions to its customers. In addition to providing advanced voice communication services, Mobilink also offers a number of value added services to its valued subscribers. Keeping in mind its customers convenience, Mobilink has also bundled mobile handsets, sold either independently or bundled in Get Set Go Pack. Mobilink GSM started operations in the year 1994, as a third entrant in the market, while Paktel and Instaphone were already operating since 1991 and had acquired substantial market penetration. Despite the re-launch of Ufone, the main competitor, Mobilink has maintained its momentum of growth. All this has been possible due to inter-departmental synergy and strengthening of Mobilink’s brands. Till early 2001, they had a market share of 43%. OT took over management control of the company in April 2001 and changed the overall market dynamics through its aggressive marketing strategy and expertise. In less than two years time Mobilink grew by almost 400% with market leadership of 60% market share (year end 2003). At the time when it entered the market it was a small player in the cellular market of Pakistan it is now the market leader both in terms of growth as well as having the largest subscriber base in Pakistan. INDUSTRY ANALYSIS The Pakistani cellular industry comprises of 6 players: Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Warid Telecom, Zong (a brand of China Mobile Pakistan) and Instaphone, out of which, Instaphone has not maintained a prominent market position in the industry, and thus, has the lowest number of subscribers. As per the PTA findings as of June 2008, the number of subscribers for Mobilink is over 32 million customers (and has approximately 36. 39% of the market share). While Ufone and Telenor tie for second place with 21% market share, Warid Telecom has 17. 9% of the pie while Zong being the most recent has a share of 4. 4%. The price-sensitive industry faces tough competition from all players in the market, which is reflected by the marketing campaigns and by observing the past, thus making cellular services a highly elastic commodity. The market, however, is seen as very lucrative as there are only 6 operators who are providing services to just over half of Pakistan’s population – the tele density figures are a little below 60%. At the same time, companies are investing in infrastructure and technology in order to serve the untapped markets. The PTA acts as a governing body for all telecommunication-related providers in the country, and has set different regulations which operators are bound to follow, to the extent that operators are required to obtain an approval from the PTA before launching a new product or service, thus giving the authority powers to control the competitiveness of the industry. Technology is constantly changing in the telecom sector. Recently, two other players entered the market with BlackBerry support, in order to counter Mobilink’s domination. Moreover, as 3G licenses are expected to be awarded this year, it is expected that companies will invest in 3G and roll out services to users within one year. Moreover, as the telecom sector is witnessing rapid growth, represented by high revenues, companies are devising new tactics on attracting and targeting users and trying to increase the average revenue obtained per user. Firms compete on the basis of pricing, while quality of service is often overlooked. The telecom sector has faced a boom due to the continuous reduction in price, and the ability of network providers to continuously add customers to their user base. Due to this, companies gain momentum and size rapidly, and can are therefore able to provide more services. At the same time, these companies become cash-rich, and investment is an on-going process. Network coverage, subsidized SIM card rates, the ability to switch from one network to another while retaining the same number all have posed opportunities for different providers, but simultaneously, these are also challenges. The industry’s success is due to the large amounts of investment that takes place. The telecom sector takes a good chunk of the annual FDI, with investment running into millions of dollars. Evidently, these companies are making substantial amounts of profit, considering there is no bar on the amount of remittances companies are allowed to take to their home countries’. The amount of money telecom companies utilize for investment and expansion purposes is sizable, thus providing an opportunity for financial institutions to offer their credit. From July 1 2008, the government announced in the budget that the telecom services in Pakistan will have a sales tax of 21% in place of the 15% that was charged before. This is a significant development in the telecom sector’s story as the current telecom penetration rate is less than 60%, and this also poses a challenge to the growth rate as basic access to telecom services has been made more expensive for the consumers. It should be noted that there are other taxes such as the activation tax that is in place for each connection sold (amounting to Rs. 00 per connection or SIM card), which is already being sold at a subsidized rate by the operators. Moreover, the cellular companies and the main fixed-line operator in the country moved a petition to abolish the USF (Universal Service Fund) Access Promotion Charge in order to maximize their revenues. Currently, companies are already fulfilling the basic requirement of 1. 5% of total revenues, and consider the APC as detrimental to their revenues. Only recently has a proposal been sent to the Ministry of IT and Telecom to remove the APC. MARKET SHARE PEST ANALYSIS POLITICAL: Considering the current politically instable condition in Pakistan, the telecom sector of Pakistan is not doing too badly. The sector was by far the largest recipient of foreign direct investment in 2007-08. As per PTA, the industry continues to add more than 3 million new mobile subscribers every month even under the current conditions. Although the frequently changing government does bring very frequent changes in the laws and regulations, this does not however stop the number of users from increasing. ECONOMIC: Around the globe there’s a recessive economy prevailing. There is an increase in the interest rates and the slump in the economy world over doesn’t seem to be coming to an end. Unfair taxation would lead to burdening the new potential rural consumers who do not have access to mobile phone facility hampering the development of the rural economy. The growth in the telecommunication sector during last 4 years was recorded 100 percent due to its expanding consumer base(Daily Times, July 7, 2008). However, the burden of taxes and duties is going to reduce the usage by the consumers resulting in fewer revenues for the government and reduced operations by the companies. SOCIAL: Cellular revolution has taken Pakistan by storm. The mobile density in Pakistan is reaching 56% (Babar Bhatti, August 31, 2008). Mobile phones are increasingly being used as a social tool across the globe. Pakistani cellular companies are also trying to catch on with this growing ‘cellular activism’ frenzy. It’s true that cellular companies have limited scope of action as far as brining social change is concerned still almost all the mobile companies of Pakistan are doing some kind of social uplift projects. Telenor, for instance, has launched a farmers’ uplift scheme TeleKisan besides the apna PCO and other schemes. Similarly, other cellular companies are also conducting some activities in the avenues of social uplift. Corporate sector too has a major role to play. Instead of simply doling out a few millions in charity, local corporate giants, along with the multinational conglomerates, should come forward with new ideas of using cellular technology for poverty alleviation. TECHNOLOGICAL: Due to the current economic recession, the technology required to expand is difficult to gain. And therefore, Pakistan needs to increase telecom research and development work within the country. China and India are in the process of becoming world major Ramp;D centers for technology and telecommunication. Two top Chinese telecom equipment firms have announced their plans to collaborate with Pakistan: Huawei is working with UET Lahore and ZTE will setup Ramp;D center in Islamabad. The goal of the policy makers should be to increase the rate of transfer of technology from abroad, broaden the pool of local skilled workforce and accelerate the local production of telecom equipment and handset parts etc. PORTER’S FIVE FORCES 1. Produced and maintained by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and distributed by the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), the Death Master File is a massive computer database containing more than 85 million records of deaths, reported to Social Security, from 1936 to present. How Crooks Use Dead People Assuming the identity of a dead person has long been a favorite ploy of criminals. Everyday, living bad people use the names of dead people to  apply for credit cards, file for income tax refunds, try to buy guns, and any number of other fraudulent criminal activities. Sometimes they get away with it. More often, however, they are foiled by the Social Security Death Master file.
